OMG I almost forgot Nora!

OMG I almost forgot! With these eye problems I'm not following my usual schedule of networking & blogging and I realized I need to chat about the etsy blogger of the month

DesignbyNora!

I am so jealous,.........she has a degree in graphic design! A recent graduate of California State University and job hunting ,so if you can help her out with employment leads, she lives in Los Angeles and she's young and pretty! Oh and pretty crafty too! Look at her adorable earrings.

Love the Magenta Flower Studs.

I love her blog, norademirjian.blogspot.com Totally candid and with tons of questions and musings. We share a favorite movie " The Little Mermaid". I am a sucker for the disney musicals and especially "Under The Sea" sung by Sebastian. Oh, and "Kiss the Girl" I watch the movies hundreds of times with my patients and have the songs memorized. I even sing them in the shower.and a few are in my IPOD next to my Wizard of Oz tunes. :-)

Love these extra glossy Turquiose Star Earrings too!

So visit her shop and blog and ENJOY!

Computer Addiction

I have become such an online addict that I have now gotten a third stye in my eye! I need to learn to take breaks longer than just five minutes.

After the first stye I said, Gee I'm loving this blogging thing too much. The second stye told me I really needed to pace my computer time better and take 20 min. breaks. I didn't. A week ago I developed a third stye, and these suckers are painful! So I made myself take a solid 3 days off !

Almost impossible! I snuck on a few times. Sneaking from who? ME ....

To distract myself from the web I went to Ft. Myers to see the dd at college, and my dh and I went to the Ford Edison Estate and Museum. We love old stuff and look what I found in the museum.

Thomas Edison's Talking Doll: "Despite several years of experimentation and development, the Edison Talking Doll was a dismal failure that was only marketed for a few short weeks in early 1890....Edison's Talking Doll was an historic step in phonograph history -- the first phonograph marketed for home entertainment, with a pre-recorded cylinder.

The doll stands 22" high and weighs four pounds, with a metal body, articulated wooden limbs, and an imported Simon and Halbig #719 bisque head. The original price was $10 with a simple chemise, and $20-$25 with full dress. This was a huge sum for the time, equal to about two weeks salary for the average person. The phonograph inside the body of the doll was tiny, with a small horn pointing up toward holes in the doll's chest. Cylinders were not interchangeable.

There was no spring motor so the child was expected to turn the crank by hand at a steady speed in order for the doll to recite the six-second pre-recorded nursery rhyme. (Edison was later quoted as admitting that "the voices of the little monsters were exceedingly unpleasant to hear.") Unfortunately the delicate mechanism was too fragile for rough usage, and the steel stylus caused the wax record to wear out extremely rapidly."

I thought Chatty Kathy was the first talking doll!

Dirty Limmericks are Poetry Right?

March is National Craft Month ,..............Yawn! I talk about crafts constantly

It's also Poetry month, Irish month, Women's History Month, Social Worker month, Peanut month, frozen Food month............

Let's have some fun with Poetry Month (I'm in a rare mood)

There once was a man from Nantucket

Who kept all his cash in a bucket

His daughter named Nan

ran away with a man

And as for the bucket, Nantucket

The man followed the pair to Pawtucket

The man and the girl with the bucket

He said to the man,

You're welcome to Nan

But as for the bucket, Pawtucket

Too clean for you?............... Ok I can fix that

There once was a fellow O'Doole

Who found little red spots on his tool

His Doctor a cynic

Said get out of my clinic

And wipe off that lipstick You Fool!

You knew I wouldn't be too bad
Ok here is my fav little poem ..........seriously, get in a school teacher poetry mood

Happiness is as a butterfly

which when pursued

is always beyond our grasp

But...if you will sit quietly

will alight upon you.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwww

Angela Michelle Dolls

Ooooooooo!!!! I found some adorable tiny little dolls on etsy(of course) that I just love. I love all the dolls I find on etsy, except the "sad" ones. Quite a few very talented artists make extremely sad dolls. Weird to me. Not a few, but all their dolls are miserable. Issues????

Angela Michelle Dolls are fantastic intricate sweet little creations made from toothpicks and embroidery floss AND hours of work,............that you can't take your eyes off of. What patience it takes to design such detail!

Be sure to notice the rear view of this "Flowers In The Wind" elf doll, showing the detail of the hair and dress

I stumbled on her shop when I was listing my own embellished frames with my "quirky" little dolls. I was searching the site for picture frames and studying what tags to use. I found her shop and then her blog and I loved reading her thoughts and learning how she creates these little masterpieces! She also has tutorials if you want to give it a try. Go and see for yourself and enjoy!

Her penny people are REALLY small as this picture demonstrates!

Two Wolves

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside all people. He said, 'My son, the battle is between two'wolves' inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, falsepride, superiority, and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: 'Which wolf wins?' The old Cherokee simply replied, 'The one you feed."

I stold this from HappyHouseQuilts, she is a breast cancer survivor.

My First WTF? Post

I have a horrible phobia of birds. Very Bad. I cannot be near them. Even around a caged bird, I am visibly calm but ready to run for my life and pee if any sudden movement occurs.

I know the cause of my phobia. My parents took me to see Alfred Hitchcock's movie "The Birds" when I was 9. I distinctly remember crying and turning around in my seat! My parents made me stay and finish the movie! WHY wouldn't they have taken me home? They are good people, otherwise. WTF were they thinking? When I ask them today they say they don't remember that there was any problem! WTF? I DO.

So it's Barbies 50th birthday! Who doesn't love her? Let's forget the "Perfect Look". Have you ever seen a successful doll that was ugly?

She's a single successful women who has like over 100 occupations! Tons of pets and friends and social activities! She's an ICON and a favorite doll of girls WORLD WIDE !

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BARBIE !!!!!!!!!

So being a doll lover I get many emails about doll clubs, groups, new products and news and more.

So I open this email:

Alfred Hitchcock "The Birds" Barbie now available!

Now don't laugh like my dd...........I jumped and gasped and stared in DISBELIEF.

WTF? A Joke of Course that someone photo shopped,

Today I discovered ........It is a real product!!!!

Poor Barbie, I know she is not happy - LOOK at her face!

I'd much rather have "Pooper Scooper Barbie" . Wouldn't you?

This explains why dogs eat their poop. It looks identical to the biscuits!

New Digs For Quirky Dolls

So everyone loves my dolls and especially my little brooch and magnet dolls, but they are not selling. One comment was "I love them but I'm not bold enough to wear a brooch that size."

So I've been thinking..........(scary I know)................how could I make my teeny weeny and 12 inch tall dolls more user friendly. People don't want to buy a doll just because she is a cute doll. Money is tighter now days and is spent on items "of purpose"

So I thought of using my Quirky Little Dolls to embellish photo frames! The variety of themes is endless....

Baby, Kids, weddings, parties, birthdays, vacations, pets............

Photo frames are home decor and everyone has their kids and friends photos sitting around the house on tables and dressers, on the frig door, or on their desk at work , Or even on their work file cabinet.

So I went frame shopping and I found adorable magnetic frames in lots of patterns and plain table frames to decorate.........................

Here are the first two magnetic frig frames.....
